Meet Jim Brandt, Orange County's Member of the Dean Dozen

The Dean Dozen is a list of candidates seeking offices at federal, state, and local levels who were endorsed by the Democracy For America organization.  The selections were made based upon candidates who reflected the progressive views and grass roots organization that made Governor Howard Dean's presidential candidacy such an inspiration.

Jim Brandt ran against an eight-term congressional incumbent, Dana Rohrabacher, in the 46th Congressional District in 2004.  He was selected for the Dean Dozen list because of his strong grass roots campaign organization, and strong support for progressive issues.  Jim made a strong run in a highly Republican district in a year when local issues were drowned out by the clamor of the Presidential campaign and the polarization of partisan politics played at the national level.

Jim has a strong appeal with both progressive Democrats and moderate Republicans because of his dedication to "people" issues as well as a common sense approach to fair business practices.  "When businesses cheat, they undermine responsible businesses that play by the rules.  When Wal-Mart sends their employees to public health clinics instead of offering health insurance, they leave tax payers footing the bill.  That's not fair to us or to responsible businesses in the community that have to compete with predatory capitalists like Wal-Mart."
